Shark Jaws have serrated inner and outer jaw surfaces. These extended jaws provide an aggressive hold. They hold cylinder spigots much more safely than standard jaws. They are much easier and provide vastly better grip than traditional jaws used to turn long workpieces.
The sizes indicated on the drawing are when the jaws form a perfect circle. VM90 and VM100 chucks provide approx. 38mm of expansion beyond these specified sizes.

I ordered a set of these for one of my Vicmarc 100 chucks based on trying them in the past. They are made very nicely and very crisp and strong, I like how well they hold both long square and round objects, the wood can be inserted deeper into chuck for a very firm grip, and with little or no fuss. These are especially good for turning objects which extends from the chuck and do not have tailstock support, these are long and strong to minimize the deflection and movement.
I purchased the 48mm shark jaws for my VM100 after a using the larger set on my VM120. Today I used the 48mm to chuck-up a 14” long and solid heavy white oak turning as a test. I’m please to see these jaws simply never flex or complain. I was able to rough turn without tail stock support without a hint of worry. I was able to shape the turning using light cuts using a bowl gouge. The chuck never loosened under the load and the jaws remained rock steady. I trust the shark jaws. Period.
When beginning woodturning a few years ago, I tended to buy whatever lathe accessories were cheapest. I quickly realized that was folly. Vicmarc is now my first choice. Every Vicmarc chuck and accessory is flawless.
